I am a freelance environmental journalist based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK.

My work has appeared in publications including the Washington Post, the Guardian, National Geographic, Pacific Standard, Grist, Earther, Geographical, Earth Island Journal, Sierra Magazine, Saveur, Atlas Obscura, Hakai, Oceans Deeply, DeSmog UK, and others.

I’ve been reporting on the environment since 2013, starting as a reporter for Climate Home in London. In 2015, I joined Carbon Brief. In 2017, I decided to go it alone: I became a freelance journalist and moved to Chicago. In 2018, I moved back to England, but this time, to the North. And that’s where I remain.

I have a degree in English Literature from Oxford University, and a Masters in Magazine Journalism from Cardiff University.

When I’m not writing, I’m usually hiking somewhere in Northumberland, reading, playing the violin, or rubbing antiseptic cream on scratches from my cat.
